Weaver RV 7 2.5-7×28 Review

This is one of my favorite, lightweight squirrel rifle scopes.  Some argue their’s just not enough power at the top end, but I’ve taken many squirrels with this scope and using 7 power.  Heck, alot of fellas would just assume leave it on 4 power and call it a day.  Now while I’ve taken squirrels at low powers, they were at close range.

The Weaver RV7 pairs very nicely with a lightweight squirrel rifle.  It’s ability to only add 10 ounces of additional weight, plus have a magnification range, gives you a versatile option to top your rifle with.

Here are some of the scopes features:

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Exit Pupil: 11.2 – 4mm
  • FOV @ 100 yds: 41.3 – 15.7 ft.
  • Eye Relief: 3.7″
  • Overall Length: 11.5″
  • Weight: 9.75 oz
  • Finish: Matte
  • Reticle: Dual-X

The power ring moves smoothly.  The glass is clear and bright.  The windage and elevation turrets are adjustable by a coin or screwdriver, I would prefer them to be hand adjustable.  This scope comes in a matte black and silver colors.

The RV7 has its parallax set at 50 yards which is standard for most rimfire scopes.  When sighting in at 25 yards this can be a bit difficult as the target will be a little blurry and the crosshairs will be slightly out of focus.  With my aging eyes, sighting this lower powered scope in at 50 yards is difficult, just not enough power for me.

In the woods you will have some of the crosshair blurring at closer ranges, but when you are locked in on a squirrel you will hardly notice it.

The Weaver RV7 is good glass for the money.

If you’ve got a lightweight hunting rig and want to keep it that way, the Weaver RV7 is a solid choice.  If you are like myself and hunt over dogs or just like to stalk for squirrels then keeping things lightweight can make the hunt much more enjoyable.

  1. I have 4 of these Weavers and 2 Leupold 2-7x rimfire scopes.
The Leupolds are slightly lighter and have a bit wider field.
For the money, the Weavers are a slightly better buy.
